Rosemarie Layne
holds an Associate Degree in Mass Communications (distinction) and
has worked in various areas of the print media in Barbados, spanning
Public Relations, newspaper and magazine publications.
Miss Layne began
her journalism career in Barbados in 1988 as a free lance writer for
New Bajan, The Barbados Business Update,
the Nation newspaper's Together
magazine and other local publications. She later graduated
with Distinction from the Barbados Community College (1992) and was
also designated Valedictorian.
While pursuing
her studies, Miss Layne interned at Bishop & Goddard Services Inc.
and was later offered a position with the Advocate Company Limited.
She held the post of Senior Writer of the
now defunct bi-monthly tourist magazine The
Sunseeker before joining the Editorial department of the
Barbados Advocate in 1993 as a Reporter on the News
and Lifestyle desks.

Miss Layne,
who also studied French extensively worked as a Bi-lingual Secretary
at a French commission agency for two years from 1994- 1996. Prior
to that, as a student, she spent two summers in Paris and also
participated in a two-week ‘stage’
(workshop) in Martinique with CIRECCA
(Centre
International de Recherches d'Echanges et de Coopération de la
Caraïbe et l'Amérique Latine)
at Parc Floral et Culturel (1987)
before returning to that island on two other occasions. She has been
associated with the Alliance Française de la Barbade for 20
years.
Miss Layne,
who had previously been engaged in private tutoring for a number of
years,,
in 1998 opened a private tuition
business, Personal Touch Language Services, offering
personalized private tuition in English, French and Spanish to
children and adults
of various levels of ability.
On completing the
Erdiston Training College's Early Childhood Education Certificate in
1999, she was awarded a Distinction. Subsequently, in 2001, she was
named the Most Outstanding Participant' of the National Certification
Programme in Basic Child Care offered by the UWI Continuing Studies
Department and the Child Care Board.
Miss Layne was
Editorial Coordinator of a local web site company for over a year,
with special responsibility for a dance website. During this time
she served as of Public Relations Officer for a local charity
organization.
While still
actively involved in tutoring, Miss Layne has now broadened the
range of Personal Touch Language Services, tapping on her editorial
skills.
In January 2005 she renewed her
association with the Nation Publishing Company as a regular dance
columnist in the Weekend Nation's Groove
magazine, in addition to writing generally writing on the arts for
this publication. |
